Event organized by Tahitian Va'a Federation
Hawaiki Nui Va'a has become one of the biggest sporting events of the year for Tahitians and many others in the South Pacific. Pendulum canoe races (va'a in Tahitian), single or team, Tahitians are the kings of the discipline in international events.

More than 2,000 canoes line up for this 80-mile race, which takes place over three days between the islands of Huahine, Raiatea, Taha’a and Bora Bora. Hundreds of fans cheer them on, from the boats and from the world-famous beach of Matira to Bora Bora, the finish line. The athletic and tactical skills needed to finish this grueling race are on display and remind visitors that Polynesians conquered the South Pacific by canoe.

The Hawaiki Nui Va’a race is the ideal opportunity to explore the Society Islands: Huahine, Raiatea, home to the UNESCO World Heritage site of Taputapuatea, and the center of all yacht charters, Taha’a, and of course the mythical Bora Bora. All the island’s inhabitants do their utmost to welcome the teams, their friends and families in the best possible conditions, organizing festive evenings, which keeps the traditional Polynesian way of life very much alive.
